I literally "found" Alaska in Sep 1989, when the Flying Tigers troop transport destined for Japan with 539 active duty and dependent souls on board, started accumulating smoke in the cockpit. We manned the escape doors, shuttled kids and babies hand-over-head to toward the rear of the fuselage, dumped fuel over the inlet and landed safely(obviously) at Ted Stevens International Airport. We all remained in Anchorage for a week waiting for another troop transport to Japan. I was hooked....Three years later, I was back in ALASKA, family in tow....Best decision I ever made! My philosophy for living here was simple: Live in a state that epitomizes the American dream to pursue life, liberty, fishing and happiness.
